KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has demonstrated flexibility regarding the reopening smooth functioning of the parliament.

The NC has shown willingness to form a parliamentary committee by allowing Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, who faces allegations in a cooperative fraud case, to address Parliament.

This move has also raised the possibility of continuous obstruction in parliamentary proceedings.

The Nepali Congress’s willingness to entertain Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s proposal for probe committee formation, contingent upon Lamichhane’s parliamentary address, has initiated internal deliberations within the party.

Furthermore, the scheduled Parliament meeting for Thursday at 11 am has been deferred to 4 pm.

NC Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak told Khabarhub that the Nepali Congress parliamentary party is currently engaged in informal discussions to determine the necessary decision and strategy.

“The Prime Minister’s directive to let the Home Minister speak in Parliament and initiate committee formation has prompted NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s flexibility. Hence, we are convening a meeting to gather input from our colleagues,” stated Lekhak.

In the absence of government policies and programs being discussed, the Prime Minister’s decision to allow Lamichhane’s speech and propose parliamentary committee formation with the Nepali Congress presents a middle-ground option.

Elaborating further, Lekhak remarked, “Both the Speaker and the Prime Minister have urged NC President to allow the Home Minister’s address first, followed by committee formation.”
