Unified Socialist to claim Sudurpaschim CM from ruling coalition

KATHMANDU: Following the claim for the Chief Minister’s position by two lawmakers from the Nagarik Unmukti Party itself, a leader from the CPN-Unified Socialist party is also reportedly heading to the office of the Province Chief to claim the position of Chief Minister, backed by the ruling coalition.

Dirgha Sodari, leader of the Unified Socialist Parliamentary Party, stated that CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Center, and Nagarik Unmukti Party have agreed to support a Unified Socialist candidate for the post of chief minister.

Sodari claims support from 10 lawmakers from UML, 10 from the Maoist Center, 7 from Nagarik Unmukti, and independent lawmaker Dr. Tara Prasad Joshi.

However, with two individuals from the same party claiming the position, Province Chief Najir Miyan has sought legal advice and deferred the decision-making process within the stipulated time frame.

As the deadline for the submission of the post expired on Sunday, Province Chief Miyan seems to be in a legal quandary.

Earlier, Unified Socialist Party Chair Jhalanath Khanal reportedly warned Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ of resigning from the federal government unless the Unified Socialist party was given the Sudurpaschim Chief Minister’s post.
