KATHMANDU: Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizen, Surendra Raj Acharya, has emphasized the digitization of disabled identity cards.
In today’s meeting of the Sustainable Development and Good Governance Committee of the National Assembly, Minister Acharya highlighted the importance of issuing identity cards to all disabled individuals in a fair manner.
He stated, “Discrimination has been observed in the distribution of disabled identity cards. Therefore, it is crucial to digitize the identity cards to ensure a fair distribution.”
The ministry is currently in discussions about assigning responsibilities to all three levels of government for the distribution of prosthetic items, noted Minister Acharya.
He added that collaboration and cooperation with inter-ministries are underway to implement the resolution proposal approved by the National Assembly.
Committee Chairperson Prakash Pantha stressed the necessity of enforcing laws, pointing out instances of misuse of disabled identity cards.
Committee members, including Bamdev Gautam, Narayan Prasad Dahal, Kamala Devi Panta, and Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi, also shared their views on the matter.
