Five, including police personnel, accused of gang-raping 14-year-old girl in Mugu

MUGU: In a distressing incident, five individuals, including police personnel and government employees, have been arrested on charges of collectively raping a 14-year-old girl in Mugu.

The victim, a resident of Chhaya Nath Rara Municipality in the district, was allegedly subjected to this heinous crime, prompting law enforcement to apprehend the suspects.

The arrested individuals include 30-year-old Basanta Bahadur Karki (City Police) from Karkibada , 22-year-old Office Assistant Basanta Rokaya from Agriculture Development Office, and three teenagers under 18.

Four others reportedly involved in the incident are still absconding.

DSP Birendra Bahadur Thapa of Mugu Police informed that the victim, who is pregnant as a result of the rape, brought the matter to light during a medical examination at Mugu District Hospital.

The girl revealed the horrifying details of the crime during the examination, mentioning that she was coerced into visiting a room on the 16th of Bhadra (September 2) to meet one of the suspects.

DSP Thapa further stated, “After calling her to the room at around 9 pm to a room in Gamgadhi, the 14-year-old teenager, along with other five, forcibly gang-raped the victim.”

The victim’s statement, highlighting the sexual assault and violence, has led to the arrest of the accused individuals. The Mugu District Police Office is conducting an investigation into the matter.
