Leopard sightings spark rear in Abukhaireni villages

DAMAULI: Locals in the Panighatta, Aapchautara, and Chowkchisapani areas of Abukhaireni Rural Municipality are living in fear due to frequent leopard sightings in their locality.

Dinesh KC, the chairperson of Abukhaireni Rural Municipality-3, reported that residents are increasingly alarmed as leopards are often seen in the Panighatta area during the evenings.

Efforts are underway to set up cages in these areas in collaboration with the Division Forest Office to protect the locals from possible leopard attacks, he added, urging the community to stay vigilant.

Earlier, a cage had been placed at Chowkchisapani after two leopards were spotted there last Friday, according to local resident Prashanna Adhikari.

In the meantime, the Forest Division Office has advised locals to light up their homes and huts during the evening and night, avoid walking alone, and take extra care of children and elderly individuals.
