Dengue claims eight lives in Gandaki Province in 10 months



POKHARA: Dengue has been confirmed in 18,339 individuals in Gandaki Province over the past 10 months, with eight fatalities reported, according to the Ministry of Health of the provincial government.

The first death from dengue occurred on July 25, 2024, when a 48-year-old man from Tanahu succumbed to the disease.

Since then, the Ministry reported the following deaths: a 40-year-old male on August 6, a 52-year-old female on August 15 in Kaski, and a 61-year-old male in Myagdi on September 4.

Additionally, four women aged 81, 70, 75, and 26 died from dengue in Kaski on September 6, 18, 30, and October 20, respectively.

Kaski district recorded the highest number of dengue cases, with 8,979 infections, while Manang had the lowest with just six reported cases.

In Pokhara Metropolitan City, the provincial capital, 8,858 cases were confirmed. According to Prashanta Raj Sharma, the Information Officer at the Ministry, 12 local levels in the province have remained unaffected by the disease.

Dengue cases in the province showed a marked increase over the course of the year.

The first confirmed cases were reported in January, with 70 infections.

By September, the number of cases had surged to 6,267, with an additional 6,044 cases reported in October. As of November 15, 947 new cases have been recorded.
