Darchula jeep mishap: Death toll reaches 8



DARCHULA: The death toll from the jeep accident in Darchula has risen to eight, with four others injured.

The incident occurred when a jeep crashed while returning from a Jatra (festival), according to the District Police Office in Darchula on Friday morning.

Among the deceased, two individuals were Indian nationals.

They have been identified as 45-year-old Mohamed Safir and 18-year-old Mohamed Basim, both from Uttar Pradesh, India.

The other victims include 45-year-old Dilip Bista from Shailesshikhar Municipality-9 in Darchula, 40-year-old Mina Lekhak, 30-year-old Birendra Rawal from Lake, and 28-year-old Shanti Rawal from the same municipality.

Additionally, 15-year-old Sudeep Bohara and 50-year-old Birendra Bohara from Rural Municipality-5 Nagraon were also among the deceased.

According to Chhatra Bahadur Rawal, a Police Inspector at the District Police Office in Darchula, the four injured individuals are 8-year-old Sandeep Rawal from Shailyashikhar Municipality-5 Lekgaon, 30-year-old Sunil Joshi from Malikarjun Rural Municipality-8 Pasti, 28-year-old Uttam Rokaya from Dilashaini Rural Municipality-5 in Baitadi, and 17-year-old Sohin Shah from Pilibhit Marudanda, India.

The condition of the jeep driver, Sunil Joshi, who sustained head injuries, is critical, while the other injured passengers are reported to have moderate injuries.

They are currently receiving treatment at Gokuleshwar Hospital.

Prakash Rawal, who suffered minor injuries, has been discharged after receiving treatment.

The accident occurred on Friday morning at Bakjebla in Shailyashikhar Municipality-6, involving Jeep Ma 1 Ja 338, which was traveling from Malikarjun to Gokuleshwar.

The jeep, carrying 13 passengers returning from a night pilgrimage to the Malikarjun temple in Malikarjun Rural Municipality-3, fell approximately 150 meters from the road.
