Kathmandu’s temperature plummets 5 degrees in two weeks

KATHMANDU: As the monsoon season has officially ended in Nepal, temperatures in Kathmandu are beginning to drop.

The city has seen a decrease of approximately 5 degrees Celsius over the past two weeks.

Currently, the post-monsoon season is underway, bringing cooler weather.

In recent days, the influence of both western and local winds has resulted in rain and windy conditions in various parts of the country.

Meteorologists have indicated that with the monsoon over, temperatures are expected to gradually decline.

The weather improved after heavy rains on September 27 and 28.

The monsoon fully exited Nepal by October 13. Although afternoons are bright with sunshine due to clear skies, mornings and evenings are noticeably colder.

According to the Weather Forecast Division, temperatures in the Kathmandu Valley have been decreasing steadily over the past week.

Sanjiv Adhikari, a meteorologist from the Division, noted that the minimum temperature in Kathmandu was around 20 degrees Celsius on October 15th.

However, in just a week, it dropped to approximately 16 degrees over the past two days.

“The cold is continuously increasing in Kathmandu,” he said. “Temperatures have been gradually decreasing over the last 15 days.”

The Division reported a minimum temperature of 14.7 degrees Celsius on Sunday, rising slightly to 16 degrees on Monday.

This sudden temperature drop has contributed to the increasing chill felt across most parts of the country, including Kathmandu.

Meteorologists have advised residents to take necessary precautions against the cold weather.

The influence of western winds is currently normal in the provinces of Lumbini, Sudurpaschim, Karnali, and Gandaki provinces, with partial influence observed in Koshi, Madhes, and Bagmati provinces due to local winds.

This afternoon, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy to mostly clear in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

There is also a possibility of light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in a few locations across these provinces.

Additionally, light rain is expected in some areas of the Koshi Province during the night.
