Govt decides to hold local level by-elections in December



KATHMANDU: By-elections for vacant positions at the local level will be held on December 1.

Sources said that a meeting of the cabinet was held on Sunday evening, and the by-elections were decided to be held on December 1 as suggested by the Election Commission (EC).

Earlier today, Election Commission officials met with Prime Minister KP Oli and recommended that the by-elections be scheduled for December 1.

Acting on this suggestion, the government made its decision later in the evening.

According to the Election Commission, there are 39 vacancies, including chief and chairman positions, across three local levels.
