EC proposes December 1 for local level by-elections



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has proposed scheduling by-elections for vacant local positions on December 1, which falls on a Sunday.

On the same day, Chief Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapalia and other officials met with Prime Minister Oli and proposed the date.

The by-elections will address vacancies for the remaining terms of 41 local representatives, including the two heads of currently vacant district coordination committees.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Oli indicated that the government would review the proposal and announce the date as soon as possible.

He emphasized the importance of conducting the elections in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, and other officials were also present at the meeting.
