PM Oli returns to Singha Durbar after three years

Prime Minister KP Oli assumed office on Monday, taking up the executive role for the third time. Following a swearing-in ceremony at the President’s residence, Oli paid tribute to martyrs and then proceeded to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to assume his duties. Prime Minister Oli was greeted warmly by the staff upon his arrival. Before taking office, Oli visited the Martyrs’ Memorial in Lainchaur, where he laid wreaths at the statues of the martyrs.

NOC hikes petroleum price

The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has raised fuel prices. In a meeting held on Monday, the NOC’s board of directors decided to increase the price of petrol by Rs 4 per liter and diesel and kerosene by Rs 3 per liter, according to spokesperson Manoj Thakur. The new prices will come into effect from midnight on Monday. Following the hike, the price of petrol in the Kathmandu Valley will be Rs 171 per liter, and diesel and kerosene will be Rs 160 per liter.

These are the 21 new ministers of the Oli-led government

Newly appointed Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli, expanded his Cabinet on Monday. Twenty one ministers from four parties were sworn in along with PM Oli. Oli was appointed as the new Prime Minister under Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal after outgoing PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal failed to secure a vote of confidence. Oli assumes office with the backing of lawmakers from the CPN-UML and Nepali Congress, the largest party in the House of Representatives. The two parties have forged an alliance and agreed to share power at the central and provincial levels. Of the 20 ministers, 10 represent Nepali Congress, eight UML, two Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), and one Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP).

Manakamana Cable Car to remain closed for 50 days from today

The Manakamana cable car will be closed for the next 50 days starting today. The proprietor company, Manakamana Darshan Pvt Ltd, announced the closure to upgrade the system to state-of-the-art digital technology. Ujjwal Sherchan, Deputy General Manager of Manakamana Darshan Pvt Ltd, stated that the cable car, currently operated using analog technology, will undergo a significant upgrade. In addition to the technological upgrade, the main metal cable, in use since the installation 26 years ago, will be replaced.

Home Ministry forms taskforce to study Simaltal incident

Newly appointed Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak has decided to form a task force to study the incident of the disappearance of two passenger-ferrying buses in the Trishuli River in Chitwan. After assuming office at the Ministry today, he formed a task force under the leadership of joint secretary Chhabi Rijal. Other members of the task force are the representatives from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Nepal Police, and the Armed Police Force.

Bagmati Chief Minister Jamkattel to seek vote of confidence on July 21

Bagmati Province Chief Minister Shalikram Jamkattel has decided to seek a vote of confidence on July 21. Jamkattel decided to seek a vote of confidence instead of resigning after discussions with coalition partners, CPN-Unified Socialist and Hamro Nepali Party. He submitted a letter to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat, informing them of his intent to seek a vote of confidence on July 21. Jamkattel is currently in a minority after the CPN-UML withdrew its support on July 8, following a shift in the federal government’s coalition.

RSP will cooperate on good governance, stand firmly against corruption and deviation: Chairman Lamichhane

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane has extended his congratulations to newly appointed Prime Minister KP Oli and assured cooperation on issues relating to good governance. Through social media, Lamichhane conveyed his best wishes to UML Chair Oli and the entire cabinet for a successful tenure, expressing readiness to cooperate on matters of good governance and progress. He also stated that RSP would take a firm stand on issues of corruption and deviation in parliament.

NEPSE declines on the first day of new Finance Minister’s tenure

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) experienced a significant drop on the second trading day of the week. Despite expectations of a boost following the appointment of the new Finance Minister, the market failed to gain momentum. The NEPSE index decreased by 17.18 points, closing at 2240. While the share prices of 56 companies increased, those of 184 companies declined. Throughout the day, 32.2 million shares of 322 companies were traded, amounting to a total turnover of Rs 8.73 billion.
