Manakamana Cable Car to remain closed for 50 days from today

CHITWAN: The Manakamana cable car will be closed for the next 50 days starting today.

The proprietor company, Manakamana Darshan Pvt Ltd, announced the closure to upgrade the system to a state-of-the-art digital technology.

Ujjwal Sherchan, Deputy General Manager of Manakamana Darshan Pvt Ltd, stated that the cable car, currently operated using analog technology, will undergo a significant upgrade.

In addition to the technological upgrade, the main metal cable, in use since the installation 26 years ago, will be replaced.

Technicians from the Austrian company Doppelmayer are overseeing the upgrading and maintenance work.

The Manakamana cable car has been in operation since 2055 BS, providing convenient transportation for pilgrims visiting the Manakamana temple, a renowned religious site in Sahid Lakhan Rural Municipality of Gorkha.

Despite the closure of the cable car service, the restaurant at the entrance (bottom station) in Ichchakamana-4, Kurintar, Chitwan, will remain open, according to Manakamana Darshan Pvt Ltd.
