Sandeep Lamichhane’s rape case hearing underway, verdict expected this afternoon

KATHMANDU: The hearing for the rape case filed against cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane is currently underway.

The proceedings, which commenced on Tuesday, are continuing into Wednesday.

Senior advocates Ram Narayan Bidari, Raman Shrestha, Shambu Thapa, Murari Sapkota, and Krishna Sapkota presented Lamichhane’s defense.

They have also contested the verdict of the Kathmandu District Court, which convicted Lamichhane in the rape case.

Representing the plaintiff, the government advocates and others presented their case on behalf of the girl from Gaushala-26.

In the initial ruling, the Kathmandu District Court sentenced Sandeep to 8 years of imprisonment for the alleged rape incident in Gaushala-26.

Subsequently, Sandeep lodged an appeal with the Patan High Court, where the case has faced postponement on five occasions.

The hearing is expected to conclude today, with the verdict anticipated later this afternoon.
