KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Education has urged the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) to investigate upon receiving the report of the Medical Education Commission’s recommendation for action in 2074 BS (2017 AD).

On Monday, Education Minister Suman Shrestha wrote a letter to CIAA, urging it to investigate the individuals named in the commission’s report.

“The decision to implement the report has already been made. However, the ministerial-level decision to empower the authority to conduct investigations and proceed with action against those recommended for action and scrutiny has been made,” said Minister Shrestha’s press advisor, Harish Bhatta.

The commission’s report recommends action against 43 individuals.

According to the notice published in the Rajpatra (official gazette) on April 17, 2017, a three-member investigation commission was formed under the chairmanship of former Chair of the Special Court Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki.

Dr. Upendra Devkota and Surya Prasad Gautam, Under Secretary of the Ministry’s Higher and Technical Education Branch, were members of the said commission.

Although the report was submitted to the ministry, the government did not make it public.

However, six years later, newly appointed Education Minister Shrestha made the report public on April 10.
