NA Chair Dahal urges lawmakers to prioritize enacting laws

KATHMANDU: National Assembly (NA) Chairperson, Narayan Prasad Dahal, emphasized the importance of federal lawmakers taking seriously the need to enact laws as mandated by the constitution.

During an interaction on parliamentary practices, procedures, and effective roles, aimed at newly elected upper house members, Dahal emphasized that timely legislation would alleviate confusion and prevent potential citizen disillusionment.

He called for the collective effort of all stakeholders to enforce the Constitution by meeting the legislative requirements outlined in the country’s primary law.

Dahal noted a disparity between the necessity for laws and the pace of legislative development, stressing the need for regular orientations for lawmakers on these matters.

Constitution expert Kashiraj Dahal led discussions on legislative development procedures, parliamentary phases for bills, amendment procedures, delegated management, and lawmakers’ roles, with contributions from former NA members Randhshyam Adhiakri, Dr. Khimlal Devkota, immediate past NA Chair Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, NA member Dil Kumari Rawal Thapa (Parvati), and former Speaker Onsari Gharti, among others.
