Former Judge Giri sentenced to jail

KATHMANDU: Former Judge Bhuwan Giri, convicted of marital rape charges, was taken to jail after appearing at the District Court in Kathmandu on Monday.

The division bench, consisting of Supreme Court Justices Hari Phuyal and Til Prasad Shrestha, ordered on April 3 to send Giri into jail, overturning the orders of the Kathmandu District Court and Patan High Court.

Previously, both the Kathmandu District Court and Patan High Court had issued orders for Giri’s release on bail.

However, as Giri was not arrested, his wife, Aarti Rawal, had been engaged in a legal battle.

Giri, who surrendered himself to the court, has now been incarcerated.
