10 die in Kapilvastu bus accident

KAPILVASTU: At least 10 passengers died when a bus traveling from Mahendranagar in Kanchanpur to Kathmandu, met with an accident in Kapilvastu.

The bus belonging to Sunaulo Mahakali Transport and bearing Sudurpaschim Pradesh 02-001 B 0098, met with the accident at around 12:30 am in Shivaraj Municipality-1, where the bus veered off the road, plunging nearly 150 meters into the Surhi river.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Navaratna Paudel from the District Police Office Kapilvastu said that at least six people lost their lives, while 32 others sustained injuries.

The tragedy unfolded as the bus, unable to stop due to brake failure, crossed the road and tumbled into the river.

According to him, six passengers have been confirmed dead, and the number of casualties may rise.

As of now, the names of the deceased and the injured have not been disclosed.

The injured bus driver said that the brakes failed, leading to the tragic descent off the road.
