Contempt of Court case filed against RSP leaders

KATHMANDU: A contempt of court case has been filed against 20 members of parliament, officials, and leaders of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

The Supreme Court has scheduled a preliminary hearing for this case on November 18, following a petition filed by advocate Anupam Bhattarai.

Previously, the Supreme Court had rejected this writ, but Judge Binod Sharma’s bench overturned the rejection on Tuesday, ordering the case to be registered.

In his petition, Bhattarai alleged that RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane continued representing the party despite being in police custody, directing MPs, party members, and supporters to act with restraint.

The writ further claims that statements, protests, and actions intended to pressure the court during the investigation phase were meant to disrupt the judicial process, calling for the maximum penalty.
