BIRATNAGAR: Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has indicated that the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML parties may back away from their position on impeaching Deputy Speaker Indira Rana.

Speaking to reporters at Biratnagar Airport on Saturday, Prachanda stated, “The Deputy Speaker is an honest indigenous woman known for her integrity. She made a technical mistake, but we believe that the punishment should not extend to her removal. It is possible that the NC and UML will reconsider their stance on this issue.”

Prachanda also mentioned that eight names have been proposed for recommendation to the Chief Justice in the Constitutional Council, all of whom are qualified for the positions.

When asked about the possibility of changing the ranking of these candidates, he replied, “The eight names have been submitted for the Chief Justice’s recommendation. No one in yesterday’s meeting suggested breaking seniority, so there is no such issue.”

He added that it would be preferable to appoint individuals to all vacant positions in the constitutional bodies at once rather than piecemeal.

“It is important to fill all vacant constitutional commissions simultaneously,” he said.

Regarding parliamentary proceedings, Prachanda emphasized that the House would not move forward until the debate on the term ‘violence’ is resolved.

He criticized UML members for misrepresenting the ‘people’s war’ as ‘violence’ and causing confusion. “Until this issue is addressed, the protests in Parliament will continue,” he asserted.

Prachanda also highlighted the need for his party to be well-prepared to safeguard recent changes.

“Our party has made significant sacrifices for order and change. We must ensure that these changes are not reversed.”
