UML and NC finalize power-sharing agreement

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML are set to form a government through a power-sharing agreement, finalizing the division of ministries.

According to the agreement reached by the top leaders of both parties, the Nepali Congress will oversee nine ministries while UML will manage eight.

UML has agreed to take charge of the ministries of Finance, Physical Planning, Communication, Education, Industry, General Administration, and Land Reform.

On the other hand, the Nepai Congress will oversee the ministries of Home, Defence, Energy, Health, Urban Development, Tourism, Law, Agriculture, and Forests.

Internal discussions are ongoing in both parties regarding the assignment of ministers to specific roles.

Sources said that UML plans to appoint Vice Chairman Bishnu Paudel as the Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress is preparing to designate its Deputy Prime Minister and send ministers under the leadership of Prakash Man Singh, with Ramesh Lekhak, the party’s Chief Whip, being considered for the Home Ministry.

As per Article 76 (2) of the constitution, UML Chairman KP Oli is set to be sworn in on Monday morning.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 11 am tomorrow, after which Oli intends to expand the cabinet immediately.
