Chaos in Kawasoti: Police resort to aerial fire; Municipality building and Mayor’s house vandalized

KATHMANDU: The headquarters of East Nawalparasi witnessed a tumultuous day on Friday.

Relatives of three women laborers who tragically died while digging a drainage on Thursday rampaged through the Municipality building and the residence of Mayor Bishnu Bhusal on Friday.

In efforts to regain control, police responded with several rounds of aerial firing and tear gas.

The families and relatives of the deceased staged demonstrations and protests, demanding justice against the culprits and compensation for the bereaved families.

As tensions escalated, hundreds of security personnel were deployed to Kawasoti Bazar.

Earlier on Thursday, Seti Rana (51), Tanmaya Magar (26), and Chameli Singali (32) were fatally buried under a boulder while working on a drainage at Kawasoti Municipality-2.

Local residents, in their protest, have accused the Municipality of negligence leading to the tragic deaths.
