Gold price up by Rs 800 per tola today
Gold price decreased by Rs 800 per tola in the Nepali market today. According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of fine gold has been fixed at Rs 125,800 per tola and standard gold is traded at Rs 125,200 per tola. The precious yellow metal was traded at Rs. 125,000 per tola, and standard gold at Rs. 124,400 per tola on Wednesday.
Gold smuggling: Commission submits report to Home Minister
The probe commission tasked with investigating gold smuggling has submitted its report to Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane. Dilliraj Acharya, the Chairman of the commission and a former judge, said he delivered the report to the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday. Amid allegations of shielding political figures implicated in the smuggling of 60 kilograms of gold passing through airport customs and other instances of gold smuggling, pressure mounted for the establishment of a high-level commission of inquiry.

Legal representatives of the government have lodged a petition at the Patan High Court, seeking more stringent measures against cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane in connection with a rape case. The petitioners argue that the ruling issued by the Kathmandu District Court failed to meet their expectations. Earlier, the Kathmandu District Court had sentenced Sandeep Lamichhane to eight years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 500,000 after finding him guilty in the rape case. However, government advocates had urged for a minimum sentence of 13 years, citing that the victim is a minor.

South Korea to expand job opportunities for Nepali migrant workers in additional sectors
In a significant development, South Korea has announced its intention to broaden job prospects for Nepali migrant laborers through the Employment Permit System (EPS) by introducing opportunities in three new sectors starting from 2024. The Korean government’s initiative aims to extend employment opportunities to Nepali workers in the service sector, forest sector, and root industries. Previously, Nepali migrant workers predominantly found employment in the agricultural, manufacturing, and shipbuilding sectors.
