Majority leaders opt for direct elections and inclusive representation in Maoist Center



KATHMANDU: In the ongoing CPN-Maoist Center’s Statute Convention, the process of presenting proposals for discussion has been initiated today.

Among the various 20 groups, 13 groups have presented proposals today, and 7 groups will present their proposals tomorrow in the meeting scheduled at 11 am.

In the proposal submission sequence, Kanchan Khanal has suggested electing representatives for the general convention from the local committees, and assigning representatives of martyrs, disappeared, disabled, and marginalized members as supervisors in the general convention.

He emphasized making the party inclusive and people-friendly across all sectors and communities.

Saral Sahayatri proposed making the preamble more concise, changing the election symbol of the party and simplifying organizational principles, as well as making party membership more accessible.

He mentioned giving additional rights to the elections, finance, and discipline committees and making the date of the mentioning the general convention date more specifically.

Yuvraj Chaulagain suggested in his proposal for the direct election of the party committee in the upcoming elections.

He stated that candidates for all public positions should be selected by the party members, not only within the party.

In this meeting, it has been mentioned that the party has obtained a strong mandate for direct elections at all levels.

The convention which started at the Pragya Bhawan, Kamaladi, Kathmandu, had formed 20 groups to discuss on the draft of the party statute.
As 13 groups submitted their discussion output at the convention, seven more are scheduled to present proposals tomorrow.

The meeting will resume at 11 am tomorrow.
