Taiwan is an integral part of China: Prime Minister Dahal

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has made comments asserting that Taiwan is not a separate entity from China.

Speaking at a special event held on the occasion of the Chinese New Year and the Spring Festival, he explicitly expressed Nepal’s stance on ‘One China Policy.’

Recalling the joint statement issued during his official visit to China, the Prime Minister emphasized that Taiwan and China are not distinct entities. He stated, “During my recent visit to China, this viewpoint was clearly conveyed through the joint statement issued.”

Reaffirming Nepal’s commitment not to allow the use of Nepali territory against China, the Prime Minister highlighted the shared civilization, rivers, and Himalayan range as elements that bind the two countries.

Reflecting on his recent official visit to China and the meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Dahal shared that discussions covered various dimensions of Nepal-China relations based on peaceful coexistence and the principles of Panchsheel.

“We understand each other as real friends, comprehending each other’s sensitivities closely. Our relationship is based on peaceful coexistence and the principles of Panchsheel,” he said.

The Prime Minister emphasized Nepal’s firm commitment to the ‘One China’ policy, stating, “Our commitment in this regard remains clear. Changes in internal and external affairs will not affect our commitment.”

Highlighting the strong cultural and traditional ties, Dahal mentioned that the cultural and traditional bond between the two nations strengthens the people-to-people relationship.

The Chinese Ambassador to Nepal also noted that China is committed to the Belt and Road Initiative and is eager to collaborate with Nepal in various development projects.
