NRB Governor faces threats of fake identity

KATHMANDU: The Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), Mahaprasad Adhikari, has been threatened with a fake identity.

Governor Adhikari has fallen victim to the misuse of a fake ID created through the ‘WhatsApp’ app, as disclosed in a message received from the fake ‘WhatsApp’ account on Saturday night by the bank’s employees.

The contents of the message, intended for general conversations, were verified as fake on Sunday morning, according to Dilliraj Pokharel, the information officer of NRB.

“Messages were sent to NRB employees  from the fake account of Governor Adhikari starting from last night. Although some employees were informed that messages were being sent from the fake account of Governor, no action was taken,” informed Pokharel.

He further added that Governor Adhikari himself had not sent any messages, and once this was clarified, it was revealed that the ID was fake. Following this, the IT employees of NRB initiated an investigation and also reported the case to Cyber Bureau of Nepal police.
