KATHMANDU: Students pursuing MBBS at Nepal Medical College, Attarkhel, Kathmandu, have initiated a protest, alleging that the college canteen is serving unhealthy and substandard food.

Approximately 200 students gathered in front of the college administration on Sunday, expressing concerns about the unhygienic food in the college canteen and demanding assurance of quality food.

The students displayed placards with slogans such as “Implement a card system in the college mess” and “Our health, our concern.” They also called for improvements in the canteen’s quality within the college premises.

The protesting students accused the college administration of neglecting the enhancement of canteen quality and not addressing their concerns.

Despite students informing the college authorities about alleged misuse, such as not providing food to those who ventured outside, the administration reportedly took no action, according to the students.

The MBBS students claim that even after informing the college president, management director, and principal about the issue, the administration did not address the matter. Frustrated with the lack of response, the students began their protest on Sunday.

The protesting students, who pay a canteen fee of over a hundred thousand rupees, expressed disappointment with the college administration’s indifference to their concerns.

They are demanding a guarantee of good food for the remaining six months of the year and the implementation of a card system in the canteen.
