Sexual and gender minorities demand inclusive representation in state bodies, file writ at Supreme Court

Sexual and gender minority communities, advocating for proportional inclusion based on the principles of equal representation, have filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court, urging state bodies to allow them representation. According to the sources, Secretary of Mayako Pahichan Nepal, Surendra Pandey and three others, filed the writ petition against the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Law, the Federal Parliament, and the Public Service Commission, demanding the right to representation in state bodies, as per the provisions of the Constitution.

Dr. CK Raut hints at departure from coalition govt, invited for discussion by PM Dahal

The Janamat party, a component of the coalition government with the responsibility of the Federal Affairs and General Administration Ministry, is preparing to quit the government. According to sources, after receiving hints about the party’s potential exit from the coalition government, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has invited Chairman Dr. CK Raut for a discussion on Monday. Speaking with Khabarhub on Sunday, Janamat Party Chair Raut stated that preparations have been made to step out of the government at any time.

Election Code of Conduct to take effect from Tuesday

The Election Commission (EC) is all set to implement the Election Code of Conduct for the National Assembly elections scheduled for January 25 from Tuesday, January 16. On Monday, the Commission made the decision to enforce the code of conduct from January 18 to January 28. As per EC sources, the use of any public resources or assets by any political party or candidate, either in favor or against anyone, is prohibited during the code’s implementation period. The code of conduct also prohibits the use of government or public institutions or educational institutions for election-related propaganda or campaigning.

NEPSE surges above 2100 points, hydropower witnesses boom

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has once again crossed the 2100-point mark, reaching 2120 on Sunday, the first trading day of the week. After 25 days, the market has surpassed 21,00, closing at 21,20 points today. On the first trading day of the week, Sunday, NEPSE increased by 31.62 points, settling at 2120 points. Within minutes of the market opening, NEPSE crossed 21,00, maintaining that level until the closing time. On this day, the prices of 211 companies increased, 33 decreased, and 3 remained stable.

Maoist Center forming 99-member Central Committee

The ruling Maoist Center has put forward a proposal to form a 99-member Central Committee, as outlined in a draft prepared by the Statute Drafting Committee. According to the draft, a total of 99 members would compose the Central Committee, with a significant portion—75 members, including office bearers—being chosen through direct elections. The remaining members would be nominated.

Judge’s wife attempts self-immolation at Supreme Court premises

The wife of Judge Bhuwan Giri made a self-immolation attempt within the premises of the Supreme Court on Sunday. She tried to set herself on fire by dousing her body with petrol. As she was in the process of pouring petrol on herself, the police intervened and prevented the act. Currently, she is in police custody.

Tribhuvan International Airport sets new record with 8.7 million passengers in 2023

The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) experienced an unprecedented surge in passenger numbers in 2023, with a total of 8,691,443 passengers utilizing the airport, encompassing both domestic and international travelers.
