KATHMANDU: The hearing of the case against former minister and Nepali Congress leader Mohammad Aftab Alam, currently in jail for the Rajapur bomb incident trial in Rautahat, is set to resume today.

The Rautahat District Court will proceed with the hearings involving 11 individuals, including Alam, who are charged with murder and attempted murder using explosives.

Previously, on November 8, the court had issued an order to submit the argument notes within 15 days. The argument notes were duly submitted on December 10, but the hearing was not continued as scheduled.

On November 4, the District Attorney’s Office in Rautahat had filed the case against Alam, seeking life imprisonment on three counts of crime. Alam denies the charges related to the production of explosives and offenses related to murder, maintaining that no explosion occurred.

The case has witnessed various developments, with victims allegedly changing their statements before the court under pressure from Alam.

Eleven individuals are implicated in connection with the crime. Ten, including Alam, are charged with burning those injured in a bomb explosion at a brick kiln, while one person is accused of aiding the crime.

According to reports, Alam’s supporters were assembling a bomb following his instructions, resulting in injuries when the bomb accidentally detonated on April 9, 2008, claiming seven lives.

The case against Alam continues to unfold as the court reviews evidence and testimonies in the pursuit of justice.
