Case filed against 26 people, including PAC Chairman Pokharel’s wife, for cooperative fraud



KATHMANDU: A case has been filed against 26 individuals, including Anjala Koirala, the wife of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman Hrishikesh Pokharel, in connection with a cooperative fraud at the Umagauri Agricultural Cooperative Society in Morang district.

The Morang District Court registered the case on Thursday, naming 26 defendants, including Anjala Koirala, who was a board member of the cooperative.

The Government Attorney’s Office, Morang, has charged them under Section 122 of the Cooperatives Act, 2074 BS.

In addition to Koirala, the charges also involve the current chairman of the cooperative, Shambhu Prasad Rauniyar, vice-chairman Laxman Sah, secretary Alam Ansari Miya, and treasurer Shambhu Prasad Singh.

Other board members named in the case include Amod Mandal, Roshan Rajbanshi, Jitman Thakur, Vijay Kumar Yadav, Surendra Kumar Rajbanshi and Ashok Kumar Biswas.

Anjala Koirala resigned from her position on the board after issues within the cooperative came to light.
