BAGLUNG: The stunning Bukipatan area in Dhorpatan has become deserted as the cold weather has driven away shepherds.

From June to the last week of October, Bukipatan sees an influx of shepherds and both domestic and international tourists. However, it is now quiet and peaceful.

Located within Nepal’s only hunting reserve, Bukipatan has recently emerged as a favorite destination for travelers from around the world.

Ganga Pun, a resident of Dhorpatan Municipality-9, noted that approximately three thousand tourists visited Bukipatan between June and October this year.

During the summer months, visitors flock to the area to enjoy the lush greenery, stunning mountains to the north, and the sight of sheep herds scattered across the landscape.

Pun mentioned that this year, the number of tourists to Bukipatan has more than tripled compared to last year.

Pun stated, “Bukipatan, which had long been overlooked, has gained media attention, leading to an increase in tourist numbers. If we could attract more international visitors to Bukipatan and develop infrastructure such as footpaths from Dhorpatan Valley to Bukipatan, it could significantly improve the living standards of local residents.”

The Buki region, situated at an altitude of 2,900 to 4,500 meters above sea level, is home to many shepherds.

During the summer, hundreds of shepherds reside here with their thousands of sheep, goats, and cattle in temporary shelters.

Dhirendra Ghartimagar, a hotelier from Dhorpatan Valley, emphasized that most tourists visiting Bukipatan have the opportunity to experience the life of shepherds up close.

“The best time to visit Bukipatan is during the rainy season,” he said.

“Tourists who come to Buki at that time often stay for several days, and the more they explore the area, the more they want to see.”

Bukipatan boasts beautiful locations such as Garpacheda, Dahkhark, Tikadhara, Rajwan, Syachun, Furse Deurali, and Phagune Deurali.
