KATHMANDU: Nepal is set to play against the UAE in the ongoing ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier today. The match will take place at the Sevens Stadium in the United Arab Emirates.
On Tuesday, Nepal secured a dominant 165-run victory over Kuwait in their fifth match.
Captain Puja Mahato delivered an outstanding performance as both a batter and a bowler.
She scored over a century and took five wickets, making history as the first cricketer from Nepal to achieve this feat in a single match.
After winning the toss, Nepal chose to bat first, scoring 213 runs for the loss of two wickets in 20 overs.
In response, Kuwait struggled to chase the target of 214 runs, being bowled out for just 48 runs in 13 overs.
Kuwait’s captain, Zeefa Jilani, top-scored with 36 runs, hitting seven boundaries off 42 balls, while no other batter from Kuwait managed to reach double digits. Nepal also conceded seven extra runs to Kuwait.
The tournament features four nations: the UAE, Nepal, Kuwait, and Thailand. The top team from this competition will qualify for the World Cup scheduled to be held in Malaysia in 2025.
