Constitutional Council fails to recommend Chief Justice
The meeting of the Constitutional Council, held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Friday, ended without reaching a decision on the recommendation for the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
A follow-up meeting has been scheduled for Monday.
The Council, chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, included key figures such as Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, leader of the main opposition party; Speaker Devraj Ghimire; Chief Justice Bishwambhar Shrestha; National Assembly Speaker Narayan Dahal; and Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar.
Vice Chair of Putha Uttarganga die in jeep accident in Baglung
At least three people, including Bhupendraa Buda, the Vice Chair of Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality in Rukum East, died in a je ep accident in Galkot Municipality-2 Bhunkhani on Friday morning.
The identities of the other two deceased individuals—a man and a woman—have not yet been confirmed.
One man was injured in the accident and has been taken to Baglung Hospital for treatment.ied in the accident.
Gold price sets new record today
The price of gold in the Nepali market has set a new record.
On Friday, gold prices surged by 3,000 rupees per tola, reaching a new peak of 1,56,300 rupees per tola.
This marks the highest gold price ever recorded. Previously, the price of gold had reached its highest level at 1,53,400 rupees per tola.
Government honors Palesa Govardhan with Rs 65 lakh cash award
The government has honored Palesa Govardhan, the bronze medalist in taekwondo at the Paris Paralympics, with a cash award of Rs 65 lakh.
The recognition took place during a ceremony at Balwatar, the official residence of the Prime Minister.
In addition, sports coach Kaviraj Negi was awarded Rs 585,000, while the team manager received Rs 292,000.
Taxis block roads in protest against ride-sharing services
Taxi drivers in the Kathmandu Valley staged a protest on Friday, claiming that their livelihoods are being threatened by ride-sharing services like Pathao.
The demonstration took place in the Koteshwar-Jadibuti area, where taxi drivers halted traffic to voice their demands.
They called for the closure of ride-sharing services and argued that vehicles with red number plates should be prohibited from carrying passengers.
Kathmandu metropolis has 95.5 per cent literacy
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has achieved a literacy rate of 95.5 percent.
The metropolis, which has a population of 862,400, reported a 53 percent completion rate for infrastructure development and physical progress of projects and programs for the Fiscal Year 2080/81 (2023-24), according to Sumitra Lamichhane, Chief of KMC’s Plan Monitoring and Evaluation Unit.
Out of the allocated budget of Rs 24.198 billion for the last fiscal year, KMC utilized only Rs 12.345 billion.
Energy Minister Khadka promises total electrification within a year
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, has said works are in progress to illuminate each household in the country within a year.
The Minister said that increasing domestic power production is the government’s priority to promote the hydropower business.
He added that the government is exploring ways for maximum utilization of electricity produced in the country.
