Dharahara to come into operation from September 19

KATHMANDU: The government has decided that the newly constructed Dharahara in Sundhara, Kathmandu, will be operational from September 19.

The Council of Ministers, in its meeting held on Thursday, decided to temporarily open Dharahara on Constitution Day.

The original Dharahara, built during the tenure of Prime Minister Bhimsen Thapa, collapsed during the 2015 devastating earthquake.

A replica of the tower was subsequently constructed during the tenure of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The new Dharahara was inaugurated by then-Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on April 24, 2021.

However, the inauguration faced criticism as it occurred while the surrounding area was still under reconstruction.
