MYAGDI: A notable milestone has been achieved in the development of the Kaligandaki Corridor, with a total of 48 km of road black-topped in the Beni-Jomsom-Korala section.

This crucial corridor serves as a vital link between the borders of India in the south and China in the north.

The Kaligandaki Corridor Road, spanning 435 km from Triveni on the border with India to Korala transit in China, stands as a project of national pride.

Initiated in 2074 BS, the project has seen significant progress, with eight out of the fourteen sections completed thus far.

Dhurav Kumar Jha, the project head, reported that the overall physical progress has reached an impressive 78 percent by the end of 2080.

Among the completed sections, a total of 85 km of gravel and 48 km of black-topped road have been accomplished across six sections.

Additionally, the construction includes the completion of 13 concrete bridges and three bailey bridges, with motorable bridges currently under construction at six locations.

Jha further disclosed that road black-topping, utilizing the DBSD technology, has been completed in various sections including Mustang, Myagdi, and Galeshwar-Begkhola.

Plans are underway to continue this momentum, with instructions issued to construction companies to black-top an additional 13 km in the Jomsom-Kagbeni and Tatopani-Ghasa sections, as well as 6 km in the Marfa-Jomsom section within the current financial year.

The Kaligandaki Corridor Road project, estimated at Rs 10 billion, has seen an expenditure of approximately Rs 7 billion thus far.
