KATHMANDU: The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has urged passengers on international flights to refrain from wearing ‘khaada’ and garlands during security checks.
‘Khaada’ refers to the silk scarf used in farewells or greetings.
TIA’s General Manager, Jagannath Niraula, said that the request was made because these items often become entangled in X-ray machines, conveyor belts, and escalators, causing damage to the equipment.
Niraula explained, “We issued a notice today advising passengers to keep ‘khaada’ and garlands in their bags during security checks. This helps avoid any issues with security equipment.”
He also noted that discarded ‘khaada’ and garlands have negatively affected the airport’s appearance.
According to TIA, passengers who need to carry ‘khaada’ and garlands can do so by storing them in their bags.
