KATHMANDU: CPN (UML) Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai has clarified that the new power equation between the UML and the Nepali Congress (NC) was formed to inspire hope among the people.

Speaking on behalf of his party during the discussions on the vote of confidence proposal tabled by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ in today’s House of Representatives meeting, Bhattarai mentioned that the two largest parties in the parliament have begun a journey of national development and consensus at a time when the people are feeling desperate.

He shared that the CPN (UML) would vote against the trust motion, explaining that a new government would now focus on development activities and constitution amendments for progress through a strong and effective administration.

Bhattarai commented that it is incorrect to attribute Nepal’s democratic movement solely to the Maoists, noting the significant contributions of the Nepali Congress, UML, and other parties.

He also informed that the UML and NC are considering including the CPN (Maoist Centre) in their efforts for constitution amendment.

Accusing Prime Minister Dahal of expressing anger and lying during his proposal presentation in parliament, Bhattarai emphasized that the constitution and parliament are based on the foundation of people’s multi-party democracy as advocated by people’s leader Madan Bhandari.

He argued that although the CPN (UML) always supports the collaboration and unification of leftists, the CPN (Maoist Centre) has been involved in the game of making and breaking alliances.

Secretary Bhattarai made it clear that the new alliance between the two largest parties was formed to prioritize guaranteeing the future of the country’s youth, enhancing Nepal’s international image and economy, implementing the constitution, and strengthening democracy.
