NC in no rush to join government: Dr Shekhar Koirala

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala stated that the Congress party is not in a rush to join the government, given the highly volatile state of the country’s politics.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 10th Central Convention of the Nepal Financial Institution Employees’ Union at Nepal Bank Limited today, Koirala highlighted that due to political instability, there have been eight changes in the federal and provincial governments 23 times over the past year and a half.

Koirala emphasized, “Economic stability and good governance are prerequisites for achieving prosperity, not just political or governmental stability.”

He stressed the need for reducing corruption, establishing a stable government, and implementing strong policies to ensure good governance and stability in the country.

Dr. Koirala also called for serious discussions within political parties about criminal activities intended to divide parties and harass leaders.

He remarked, “As Congress is currently in opposition, we are fulfilling our role as the main opposition party. We are not in a hurry to join the government.”

He noted that without addressing issues of good governance, transparency, and corruption, the country cannot move towards development and prosperity.

Koirala also mentioned the need to reconsider the current electoral system to achieve political stability.

Praising Nepal Bank Limited, the country’s oldest bank, for its exemplary representation of youth and female employees, Koirala expressed optimism about its bright future, highlighting the importance of both public and private sector ownership.
