KATHMANDU: The Nepali national cricket team, currently in Hong Kong for the triangular T20 series, is gearing up to face Papua New Guinea (PNG) today.
The match is scheduled to commence this morning at the Mong Kok Ground in Hong Kong.
Participating teams include Nepal, Hong Kong, and PNG.
Following the series opener on Sunday, which was disrupted by rain, Nepal and Hong Kong find themselves sharing points.
In the initial match, after losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Hong Kong managed to score 65 runs for the loss of two wickets in eight overs.
Unfortunately, rain intervened once again at the Mong Kok ground, resulting in the cancellation of the match.
Consequently, Nepal and Hong Kong each earned one point from the abandoned game.
The series is set to continue until Wednesday, serving as crucial preparation for the Nepalese team ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup scheduled for June.
Leading the team under Rohit Paudel’s captaincy, the squad features players such as Kushal Bhurtel, Binod Bhandari, Gulshan Jha, Sandeep Zora, Arif Sheikh, Bibek Yadav, Karan KC, Abinash Bohora, Rashid Khan, Pratish JC, Sagar Dhakal, Akash Chand, and Lokesh Bam.
Noteworthy exclusions from the lineup for this series include Dipendra Singh Aire, Asif Sheikh, Sompal Kami, Kushal Malla, Anil Shah, and Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi, who have been given a well-deserved rest.
Prior to the triangular T20 series, Nepal faced defeat in the Friendship Cup against the host team Hong Kong last Saturday.
