KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden has disclosed the existence of diverse opinions within the party regarding the selection of the parliamentary leader in the Koshi province.

Speaking at a National Unity Day event organized by the RPP at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu on the 302nd Prithvi Jayanti, Lingden emphasized that the party’s involvement extends beyond Koshi alone, emphasizing its role in Bagmati and Lumbini provinces. He clarified, “This is not a new development.”

In the context of recent changes, Lingden mentioned discussions on whether they should participate in Koshi. The RPP Chairman, who was abroad at the time, explained that the decision was taken by the leaders in Koshi province, and the party participated accordingly.

Addressing various opinions on the matter, Lingden stated, “Some members advocate for an immediate return with unanimous support. On the other hand, our associates have their reasons. Whether we are in the Provincial Assembly or the House of Representatives, our presence in parliament allows us to negotiate for the highest position of Speaker without any conditions.”

Lingden proposed convening a central working committee meeting to arrive at a proper decision on whether to retain the position of the Speaker or not.

Regarding the significance of Prithvi Narayan Shah, Lingden commented, “If Prithvi Narayan Shah were not there, where would the Prime Minister be today, and where would the President be?”

He remarked that Prithvi Jayanti should be celebrated as National Unity Day and no one should feel ashamed to laud the great contribution of the unifier of the nation.
