KATHMANDU: MP Ranendra Baraili mistakenly referred to Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar as Indira Gandhi during Wednesday’s House of Representatives meeting.
While addressing the meeting, Baraili accidentally used the name of the former Indian Prime Minister “Indira Gandhi” instead of the Deputy Speaker’s correct name.
“There was a little progress in the House yesterday because of the Honorable Deputy Speaker Indira Gandhi,” Baraili said, causing some confusion among his colleagues.
As other MPs corrected him, he awkwardly responded, “Oh…Indira Rana (laughs) sorry,” in an attempt to rectify his slip.
Baraili’s intention was to highlight the positive developments in the House, but his mistake led to some unintended amusement.
