Govt grants 50 percent customs duty waiver for sugar imports to STC and FMTC



KATHMANDU: The government has authorized the Salt Trading Corporation (STC) and the Food Management & Trade Company (FMTC) to import 30,000 metric tons of sugar with a 50 percent customs duty waiver to address potential shortages ahead of the upcoming festivals.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung announced that a decision has been made to grant a 50 percent duty exemption for the import of 15,000 metric tons of sugar for each organization.

Minister Gurung explained that this measure is intended to ensure a steady supply of sugar for the Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath festivals.
