Incessant rainfall: Authorities warn of floods and landslides

KATHMANDU: The Flood Forecasting Division has issued a warning about the risk of flooding in various areas, including the Kathmandu Valley, following heavy rains since Saturday night.

By Sunday morning, flooding has been reported around Bishnumati and Dhobikhola in the Kathmandu Valley due to the intense rainfall in and around Budhanilkantha area.

The Division has cautioned residents living near riverbanks and those traveling on corridor roads that water levels in these rivers may rise above alert levels.

Additionally, moderate rainfall in areas like Rajaiya, Chisapanigadi, Hattisude, and Bara in Makwanpur may lead to sudden floods in the East Rapti River and nearby streams.

There is also a heightened risk of landslides in Sindhupalchok’s Gobre, Baskharka, Baunepati, Dhap, Bhotang, and Manekharka rivers.

The rain, which has persisted through the night, shows no signs of abating as of Sunday morning.
