NNTA shows concerns over budgetary ignorance to education sector

KATHMANDU: The Nepal National Teachers Association (NNTA) has complained over ignorance to the education sector in the national budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

At a press conference in Lalitpur today, the organization complained that only 10.94 percent of the total budget has been allocated for the education sector though there has been a demand of 20 percent budget to education sector.

A press release issued by the NNTA President Bishnu Prasad Bhandari and general-secretary Hans Bahadur Shahi noted that the perks and benefits of teachers, early child development teachers and employees have not been increased; budget for midday meal has remained stagnant and the issue of teacher vacancy management was not included in the budget.

The NNTA has drawn attention to the circular issued by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to control the trade union rights including the political rights of teachers regarding the involvement of teachers in political parties.

The Association has demanded formulation of rules by issuing the School Education Act first terming the Directive on Teachers Transfer, 2081, issued on May 26, unscientific.
