KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office has arrested four for fraud promising jobs in the USA, Cambodia, New Zealand, and France.

SSP Sanuram Bhattarai of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office reported that three individuals were arrested during the investigation for defrauding over 300 people of Rs 150 million.

They had promised to send the victims to countries such as the USA, Cambodia, New Zealand, and France.

The arrested individuals include Rajkumar Bhatta, 28, from Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Chitwan; Nabin BK, 22, from Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality, Kaski; and Pawan Pant, 23, from Pokhara Metropolitan City, Kaski.

Additionally, Narayan Kumar Khadka, 46, from Solukhumbu District, was arrested for his involvement in the fraud scheme related to sending people to the USA.

The accused have been luring more than 300 people, for over four years, with promises of foreign employment, defrauding them of amounts ranging from Rs 500,000 to Rs 1,000,000, accumulating over Rs 150 million.

The investigation revealed that they created fake accounts on social media platforms such as Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, advertising job opportunities in countries like Cambodia, New Zealand, and France to scam people.

The perpetrators had victims deposit money into various bank accounts, which they then withdrew through checks, subsequently failing to fulfill their promises.

The investigation was launched after 15 people, including Nabin Chaudhary, filed complaints with the police.

It was also uncovered that the fraudsters employed several accountants in Nepal under the pretense of providing them with jobs, using them as part of their scam.
