First Spring ascent of Mt Everest; 10 climbers reach summit

KATHMANDU: The season’s first Mt Everest climb was successful, with a group of 10 Sherpas from Nepal reaching the peak at 8:15 pm on Friday night.

Led by Dendi Sherpa, the team also accomplished the challenging task of rope hanging, ensuring safe passage for future climbers.

Khimlal Gautam, head of the temporary field office of the Tourism Department, confirmed the completion of rope hanging and ladder installation.

This year, 414 climbers from 41 teams have received permission to climb Mount Everest, as new limits mandated by the Supreme Court aim to regulate future expeditions.
