KATHMANDU: Narayan Dahal, the Member of Parliament from Maoist Center representing the ruling coalition, has registered his candidacy for the position of Speaker of the National Assembly (NA).

Supported by CPN-UML, Janata Samajwadi Party, and the Unified Socialist, Dahal seeks to secure the role as the head of the National Assembly.

Notably, Dahal is the sibling of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, adding a familial connection to the political landscape.

His parliamentary journey began in 2078 BS when he was nominated by the Council of Ministers to serve as an MP in the National Assembly.

However, criticism surrounds Pm Dahal for perceived nepotism and supporting “familyism” within the political spectrum.

The election for the National Assembly Speaker is scheduled for tomorrow, March 12.
