Another setback for Lumbini Development Fund: PAC asks govt to scrap Ramgram Agreement

KATHMANDU: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed the government to cancel the agreement related to the historical and cultural site of Ramgram, delivering another blow to the Lumbini Development Fund.

Ramgram is of immense significance as it is one of the eight locations where the remains of Lord Gautam Buddha are preserved.

The Lumbini Development Fund had made a decision to lease 116 bighas of land in the region to a private company named “The Promised” for a duration of 99 years.

The company involved in the agreement has ties to Nischal Adhikari, the son of Sharada Prasad Adhikari, the landlord of the residence where Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ resides.

In today’s committee meeting, a directive was issued to annul the aforementioned agreement. Furthermore, the committee has called for an investigation into the matter to initiate necessary legal actions.

The directive to cancel the agreement marks another setback for Lumbini Development Fund Vice-Chairman Lharkyal Lama.

Despite being a controversial figure, Lama was appointed as the Vice-Chairman and has faced criticism for the mismanagement of the area under the Fund.
