KATHMANDU: For the first time in its history, Standard Chartered Bank Nepal has appointed a Nepali as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

At a board meeting held last evening, the bank announced the appointment of Gorakh Rana, who was previously the Deputy CEO, as its new CEO.

Rana is the first Nepali to hold the position of CEO at Standard Chartered Bank Nepal.

He succeeds foreign national Anirbhan Ghosh Dastidar, whose tenure ended recently.

Rana will serve a four-year term as the CEO.

Having started his banking career with Standard Chartered in 1996, Rana has held various leadership roles within the bank over the years. Most recently, he served as the Deputy CEO.

Rana’s promotion follows the completion of Dastidar’s four-year term as CEO.

With this appointment, Rana becomes the first Nepali to lead the bank in Nepal.

Rana is also the son-in-law of the late King Birendra Shah, being married to King Birendra’s daughter, former Princess Shruti.

He holds an MBA from the United States.
