Lamichhane’s leadership unchallenged, even in jail: DP Aryal

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) deputy chair Dol Prasad Aryal declared on Sunday that party leader Rabi Lamichhane will remain RSP chair for life, regardless of any legal or logistical hurdles.

Addressing a demonstration held by RSP supporters in Pokhara, Aryal said that discussions about appointing an acting chair are secondary to the party’s commitment to Lamichhane’s leadership.

“As long as Rabi Lamichhane is alive, he is the president of RSP,” Aryal said. “Whether he is in custody or elsewhere, he will lead this party. There are countless examples globally where leaders have continued their roles from prison and even assumed higher offices upon release.”

Aryal’s comments come amid rising calls for RSP to appoint a caretaker leader following Lamichhane’s recent arrest. Although Aryal and Dr Swarnim Wagle are available to fulfill responsibilities as deputy chairs, Aryal has been informally managing party duties in Lamichhane’s absence.
