NC Vice President Gurung denies allegations of cooperative embezzlement

KATHMANDU:  Dhanraj Gurung, the Vice President of the Nepali Congress (NC), has refuted allegations of cheating or embezzling funds from cooperatives.

In response to recent media reports, Gurung issued a statement, addressing the misleading nature of the news.

He urged the public, his supporters, and friends both within Nepal and abroad not to believe the “unrestrained, untrue, misleading, and fabricated” reports.

Gurung clarified that his name should not be associated with these allegations.

He explained that his former wife, Jyoti Gurung, was employed as a manager at Miteri Savings and Credit Cooperative Society in Mahalakshmishan, Lalitpur, at the time of the alleged embezzlement.

He emphasized that he had no involvement or knowledge of any wrongdoing that may have occurred at the cooperative.

Gurung also noted that he and Jyoti Gurung were divorced on March 12, 2020, and that there has been no relationship with her since that date.

Additionally, Gurung called for a thorough investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds by the cooperative.

He remarked, “I have heard reports of billions of rupees being embezzled from thousands of cooperatives. I demand that the relevant authorities investigate the matter thoroughly to ascertain the truth, whether there has been embezzlement or fraud.”
